Assignment 2 Critique - Jennifer Rahaim

Photo 1: In this photo I can tell that the red is what is supposed to be the focal color. Although it sticks out the most to me, the trees in the forefront seem to be more in focus. Also, some cropping of the trees could have been done. Otherwise a good photo!

Photo 2: Good photo, lots of colors to choose from in it, but there isn’t really just one that sticks out. The Riverwalk is definitely a good place to take photos but I think it applies more at night time (personal opinion).

Photo 3: Very nice colors in this photo. Many to choose from and it makes the photo pop with color!

Photo 4: I like that the red artwork is the focus of this photo and this it is perfectly coincided with the “Rule of Thirds” concept. Along with the blue sky this photo makes excellent use of color.

Photo 5: I like that the yellow of the flowers pops in this photo and is also coincided with the Rule of Thirds. I like that it is on one side of the photo as opposed to taking up the entire thing.

Photo 6: I like that the red of the sign pops out over the green of the tree in this photo. A little cropping might make it more apparent. Otherwise a good, colorful photo!

Photo 7: I like the fire hydrant in this photo. The red of it appears to even expand from it to the surrounding plant. Also I like that the Superman roller coaster was placed in the background, adding to the red, as well as the red “no parking” line on the pavement.

Photo 8: I had a photo almost exactly like this one (literally the same thing just a different amount of sunlight). I think the red stands out a lot because it is up against such a contrasting color. Also the sunlight reflecting off of the shiny paint brings out the red even more and all throughout its surface too.

Photo 9: The Rule of Thirds is definitely apparent in this photo with part of the Superman rollercoaster on the right and left and then the Scream ride in the middle. My eyes are first drawn to the left side where one of the rollercoasters loops is exploding up from the bottom of the frame. There seems to be a lot more blue and green in this photo than the red, but it is definitely booming with color.

Photo 10: Although this photo is just like another one, the yellow pops out a lot in it. The Rule of Thirds is also very much in affect with the car on the right, flowers on the left, and the middle being the sign.

Overall Critique: A lot of the photos seem to be taken in the same location (along the same road or parking lot). More location variety would be better. The colors in most of the photos did pop out to me but it was mostly the green of plants or the blue of the sky. A more up-close approach of the colors that you want to be in focus would be better. It’s probably hard with a rollercoaster but just a thought for next time! :)
